  Meet Our Doctors  
Dr. DeLong is a 1994 graduate of the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine. He has over 10 years of experience in working with exotics. He opened Avalon Animal Hospital in 1997. He is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians and the Association of Amphibian and Reptile Veterinarians. Previous to becoming a vet, Dr. DeLong graduated from Georgia State University where he holds a degree in engineering. His love of animals and for his work shines through everyday as you'll notice when he's examining your pet. He specializes in exotic medicine, orthopedic and general surgery, and endoscopic procedures. He is the father of two lovely children, Bryce and Brynn. His wife, Dr. Dawn DeLong, is also a veterinarian and on the Board of the Animal Emergency Center of Gwinnett. In his free time, Dr. DeLong loves to fly his plane.
 

Dr. Thompson began working at Avalon Animal Hospital in July 2005. He is a February 2005 graduate of the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to veterinary school, he earned a degree in Aviation Business and is a licensed helicopter pilot too. Dr. Thompson has experience with exotics as well, putting to use his work with Dr. Divers in the Small Animal Hospital at UGA. Dr. Thompson has a special interest in small animal ophthalmology. He currently has cats, dogs and reptiles residing with him at home. He is the father of two kids, one boy and one girl. In his free time, Dr. Thompson enjoys golfing and boating.
